Cuff Links
A cufflink is a decorative fastener that is worn by both men and women to fasten two sides of the cuff on their shirt or blouse. These are also known as French or double cuffs.
On both sides of the cufflinks, there are buttonholes but the buttons are not fixed on it. They are available for both single and double length cuffs. They are worn by pinching them together or in a barrel style, where one overlaps the other. Generally, cufflinks are worn pinched together.
There are various designs of cufflinks that are available. The most common design is of a chain that connects two disc-shaped parts. The visible side of the cufflink is larger and many designs connect it to the smaller part of the cufflink. This is small enough to fit like a button through the buttonhole. The cufflinks can also be singled out and fastened from the other side.
Designs of Cufflinks
Cufflinks are available in various designs such as the contemporary cufflink, novelty cufflink, traditional cufflink, humorous cufflink and the utility cufflink.
The contemporary cufflinks are modern and have exquisite and sharp designs. The contemporary cufflinks are ideal gifts for people who are fashion-conscious.
The novelty cufflinks include various innovative designs such as alphabet cufflinks, animal cufflinks and animated cufflinks. You can also get a variety of birthday cufflinks. Musical notes cufflinks are also available that looks like an iPod, a keyboard or musical notes.
The double-button cufflinks are made up of two buttons that are connected by one piece of elastic thread. These cufflinks are used in shirts that consist of French cuffs and have similar kinds of buttons as in the front of the shirt.
Cufflinks are available in distinct colors as well as in multi-colors. Chain cuff links are same as the double-faced cuff links. A chain connects the faces of them. The metal plate contains a logo or the initials of the wearer and it can be hung from the chain.
The push-through cufflinks have a round end that is pushed through the buttonhole. It is easier to put on this cufflink but it can slide or fall easily. The snap on cuff links have two faces that can be snapped through the cuff together.
The hinged back cufflinks include a twisted bar that is attached to the unseen part of the cufflink. The bar on the cufflink is aligned to the post as you push it through the buttonhole and is bolted at an angle to seal the cuff.
When choosing a cufflink you should be careful to buy a small one that can fit through the buttonhole, yet it should be large enough to avoid it from falling. A cufflink with a wider visible face should be chosen so that the unseen part is pushed easily through the buttonhole and the other side falls in place.
To avoid the cufflink from slipping off or unlocking, it should have a tight clasp. If you are using a thick cuff, then snap on cufflinks should be avoided, since they will unlock while moving. The hinged cufflinks are secure on thick cuffs.
