Tongkat Ali Eurycoma Longifolia - Long Jack
Tongkat Ali also known as Pasak Bumi, Malaysian Ginseng and Eurycoma Longifolia Jack, is a medium sized, slender tree that grows along the hilly slopes of the rainforests of Southeastern Asia. Native to Malaysia, lower Burma, Thailand and Indonesia. The name Tongkat Ali means "Ali's Walking Stick". The Tongkat Ali tree can grow up to about 12 meters in height. Unlike most trees, the taproot of Tongkat Ali grows as much as one meter straight into the ground penetrating deep into the earth to obtain it's nutrients. The active ingredients are concentrated in the taproot. Tongkat Ali is harvested in the wild and there is growing concern that it's increasing popularity will deplete the natural preserves. The roots of Tongkat Ali (longjack) have been used for centuries in traditional medicine as a mens and womens aphrodisiac and to promote well being, improve health, increase strength and libido, treat malaria, high blood pressure, fever, fatigue, loss of sexual desire and impotence. Tongkat Ali's documented use dates back to the 1700's.
Tongkat Ali Eurycoma Longifolia is a traditional Malaysian botanical, also known as Long Jack. According to studies on animals, Tongkat Ali Eurycoma Longifolia is shown to support male hormonal balance, libido and performance. Tongkat Ali Eurycoma Longifolia has been traditionally used for more than 300 years to enhance energy levels, endurance and stamina, and to reduce occasional mental fatigue.

Though Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) is currently mostly known as an aphrodisiac, in South East Asia, all parts of Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) plants have long been used medicinally. The bark of the Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) roots is used in the Malay Peninsula to cure fever, ulcers in the mouth, and intestinal worms. The Malays also use the paste of the plant to relieve headache, stomachache, and many other general pains. In parts of Sumatra and Kalimantan, the root is used as an anti-pyretic. In Lampung and Belitung it is used as a medicine for dysentery. The people of Sabah and Kalimantan make a decoction of the Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) bark that is drunk to relieve pain in the bones or applied for washing itches. In Vietnam, people use the flowers and fruits of the Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) as a medicine for treating dysentery. In Riau, people living in the surrounding forests boil the root or stem to cure malaria. One of the most unique uses for Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) is that of the Sakai ethnic group in Sumatra who use the plant as an amulet to protect people from the smallpox virus.
Mere mention of Tongkat Ali, though, usually provokes funny looks, cheeky smiles or very naughty laughs. Its reputation as an aphrodisiac seems to be very deeply entrenched in the Malaysian psyche. While this has indeed been proven to be true, Tongkat Ali is actually much more than that. There are more than 108 active constituents in Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia) including alkaloids, quassinoids, canthin, eurycomanol, Glyco Saponins, Tannins, and Glyco Protein.

Tongkat Ali Increase Fertility
Studies show that Tongkat Ali improves the health and wellness of sperm. There is an increase in overall sperm count, size of sperm, and motility(speed). Research has shown in healthy lab mice showed a doubling in litter size.
The effects of Tongkat Ali extract in increasing sperm concentration, motility and velocity of movement helps to increase the chances of sperms to penetrate the ovaries. The higher rate of fertilization results in increase in number of offspring.
Besides higher production of sperm, the sperm were also found to be more motile and more viable than the sperm from control mice. The motility of the sperm is a physiological process which relies upon the rate of energy production in the sperm.

Wellness and Aging
Testosterone is well known for it's role in reproductive health. Anti-Fever Effects
In 1995 it was reported that the quassinoid from Tongkat Ali has an anti-fever effect. The quassiniod was two times more effective than aspirin.
Anti-Cancer
Researchers in America and Japan reported that some plant chemicals found in the quassinoids and alkaliods found in Tongkat Ali have an effect of inhibiting the growth of cancer cells in laboratory experiments, which included breast cancer cells, colon cancer cells and leukemia.
Beta-carboline alkaloids isolated fromtongkat ali have demonstrated significant cytotoxicity against human lung cancer (A-549) and human breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines. In plain English, this means that some compounds in Tongkat ali can kill cancer cells. The practical significance of this finding in humans is not clear at this time.
Anti-Oxidant Properties
Studies conducted by the Forest Research Institute Maylasia (FRIM) and the Department of Science, University Kebangsaan Maylasia (UKM) discovered that Tongkat Ali contains SOD (Superoxide dismutase), an anti-oxidant enzyme. The study showed that Tongkat Ali inhibited the chain reaction of radicals harmful to the body system. Thermogenic/Energy

They were also able to complete more squares on a maze than they could before they consumed the Tongkat Ali. These results were found to be consistent with the anxiolytic effect produced by diazepam. Therefore, this study supports the medicinal use of Tongkat Ali (Longjack 100) for treatment of anxiety.
Anti-Malarial Effects
Studies on the biological effects of Tongkat Ali began in the 1980's. Studies showed that the roots of Tongkat Ali contain a group of plant chemicals called quassinoid, alkaloid and peptide which has the property to kill malaria parasites.
Scientists have found that, in addition to its sex-enhancing effects, compounds within tongkat ali have anti-malarial properties.Some of these anti-malaria compounds are known as quassinoids.
