Acetyl L Carnitine is a more bioavailable form of L-Carnitine and is involved in many metabolic functions. As an antioxidant, acetylcarnitine protects neurons from damage caused by superoxide radicals. Acetylcarnitine is involved in other apsects of neuronal metabolism because its molecular structure resembles the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcarnitine supplementation supports energy utilization by its effects on fatty acid metabolism in the mitochondria.
Acetyl L Carnitine (ALC) is a naturally occurring form of L Carnitine, a vitamin-like nutrient synthesized in the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. ALC plays a key role in the production of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter for brain and nerve cell function.
Acetyl L carnitine (ALC) is an ester of the trimethylated amino acid, L carnitine, and is synthesized in the human brain, liver, and kidney by the enzyme ALC-transferase. Acetyl L carnitine facilitates the uptake of acetyl CoA into the mitochondria during fatty acid oxidation, enhances acetylcholine production, and stimulates protein and membrane phospholipid synthesis. ALC, similar in structure to acetylcholine, also exerts a cholinomimetic effect. Studies have shown that ALC may be of benefit in treating Alzheimer's dementia, depression in the elderly, HIV infection, diabetic neuropathies, ischemia and reperfusion of the brain, and cognitive impairment of alcoholism.
Take 1 to 4 acetyl l-carntine capsules per day on an empty stomach, or as directed by your qualified health consultant.
