Berry High is a completely natural combination of fruit and berry powders rich in antioxidant flavonoids such as ellagic acid, anthocyaniins and other polyphenols. Most of the berries in Berry High are freeze-dried to optimize their antioxidant activity.
Flavonoids and other polyphenols help protect against the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. Anthocyanins, as found in blueberries and grapes, impart bright colors to fruits and are biologically important substances known to protect vision, capillary strength and circulation. Red raspberries, strawberries, and cranberries contain ellagic acid in the form of ellagitannins, which are part of the family of phenolic antioxidant compounds that protect normal cell development. Ellagic acid is a water soluble antioxidant that promotes healthy cell development by shielding DNA from oxidative damage.
Berry High has a high ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value (2200µmole TE/6 g).
The ORAC analysis provides a measure of the scavenging capacity of antioxidants against the peroxyl radical, which is one of the most common reactive oxygen species (ROS) found in the body. Trolox, a water-soluble Vitamin E analog, is used as the calibration standard and the ORAC result is expressed as micromole Trolox equivalent (µmole TE) per serving.
