In the largest double-blind study, a total of 494 elderly patients (between 65 and 93 years of age), with moderate to severe senility were given either phosphatidylserine or a placebo for 6 months. The patients were assessed for mental performance, behavior, and mood at the beginning and the end of the study. In a double-blind study of depressed elderly patients, phosphatidylserine improved depressive symptoms, memory, and behavior. Ginkgo biloba extract was well tolerated, and no side effects were noted in the trial.
