The history of Thayers dates back to 1847, when Henry Thayer, the founder of Thayers launched the company to produce unique herbal products. As time graduated, Thayers started its full-fledged operations by the name Henry Thayer and Company. Thayers slowly emerged as a top pharmaceutical manufacturer. By 1875, Thayers was manufacturing above 800 different herbal products. The products were available as herbal preparations, tinctures, syrups, wines, infusions and poultices.
Ownership of this company was later on passed to Joseph Sturdevant and the business changed dramatically. Joseph Sturdevant emphasized on manufacturing and selling compound formulas to public through drug stores. The product line included remedies for children in the form of lozenges.
