What is Tungsten?
Tungsten, also called wolfram is a chemical element that has the symbol W and atomic number 74. A sturdy, heavy, steel-gray to white transition metal, tungsten is found in ores such as wolfram and is remarkable for its robust physical properties, with the highest melting point of all the non-alloyed metals and the second highest of all the elements after carbon. It melts at an extraordinary 6,100 degrees Fahrenheit. The pure form is used mainly in electrical applications and its many compounds and alloys are widely used in many applications, most notably in light bulb filaments, X-ray tubes, and super alloys. On its own, tungsten is vulnerable to scratches just like any other metal, such as titanium and steel. Tungsten does not gain its extreme hardness until it is combined with a carbon alloy, transferring it into tungsten carbide (WC). . Tungsten carbide is two times as hard as steel and four times as hard as titanium, is virtually scratch proof under normal wear, and has been widely used for decades in industrial applications such as cutting tools, mining machinery, and rocket engine nozzles.
Tungsten’s Great Qualities:
Tungsten is a new metal to the jewelry trade and we offer the finest quality tungsten engagement/wedding bands at prices that will fit anyone’s budget. However, don’ t mistake our low prices with substandard quality. The tungsten carbide rings we offer are not made with reactive cobalt-binder alloy; cobalt bonds with oils in the skin and leeches out of the ring resulting in oxidation. Our tungsten bands are chemically inert and won’t oxidize. Our tungsten carbide rings consist of 89% tungsten carbide, 10% nickel-binder alloy and 1% chromium, which makes it hypoallergenic. Therefore our rings will not oxidize and will not cause rashes or irritate your skin in any way. The unique formula of our tungsten carbide bands allows it to be both visually stunning and durable enough for everyday use. You no longer have to constantly remove your ring in order to protect its finish.
