L-Lysine is an essential amino acid because the body cannot manufacture it. Adequate amounts of L-Lysine must be obtained through the diet. L-Lysine is most known for its use in the relief of cold sores and herpes viruses. It appears to inhibit the growth of these viruses. L-Lysine is a vital building block for all other proteins. It helps ensure adequate absorption of calcium and the formation of collagen (the fibrous protein which makes up bone) for bone, cartilage and connective tissue.
